David Oliver Sacks is a South African-American tech entrepreneur, venture capitalist, investor, author, and podcaster. He is renowned as a key member of the PayPal Mafia, having served as COO and product leader at PayPal, helping drive its growth until its acquisition by eBay in 2002. Born in Cape Town, South Africa, on May 25, 1972, he moved to the United States as a child and settled in Tennessee. He earned a BA in Economics from Stanford University in 1993 and worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company before joining PayPal in 1999. Post-PayPal, he founded Gluecode Software (acquired by Software AG) and co-founded Yammer, a business social networking platform acquired by Microsoft for $1.2 billion in 2012. He authored 'The Rise of the Blogosphere' in 2005. In 2016, he served as interim CEO of Zenefits, stabilizing the company amid regulatory challenges, though he faced scrutiny over compliance issues during this tenure with no major legal convictions.
