About
David Miles Hogg (born April 12, 2000, in Los Angeles, California) is an American gun control activist, journalist, and entrepreneur who gained national prominence as a survivor of the February 14, 2018, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida. As a senior at the school during the tragedy, Hogg quickly emerged as a leading voice in the youth-led movement for stricter gun laws, co-founding the nonprofit organization March for Our Lives with fellow students including Emma González and Cameron Kasky. The group organized the massive March for Our Lives rally in Washington, D.C., on March 24, 2018, which drew hundreds of thousands of participants and sparked nationwide protests. Hogg's media savvy positioned him as a symbol of the post-Parkland generation's fight against gun violence, though he has faced intense backlash including death threats and conspiracy theories falsely claiming he was a 'crisis actor.' Beyond activism, Hogg graduated from Harvard University in 2022 with a bachelor's degree in government, worked as a producer for Good Morning America, and launched entrepreneurial ventures including Leaders We Deserve, a digital media company. In early 2025, he briefly served as co-vice chair of the Democratic National Committee. He co-authored the 2019 New York Times bestselling book 'Parkland: Birth of a Movement' with Emma González. Hogg remains a polarizing figure in American politics, targeted by conspiracy theorists while continuing his advocacy for gun reform and youth political engagement.
