David Frank Levi (born August 29, 1951) is an American jurist known for his extensive career in federal judiciary, legal education, and corporate governance. Appointed U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California by President Ronald Reagan in 1986, he served until his appointment as a United States District Judge for the same district in 1990, acting as Chief Judge from 2003 to 2007. He was mentioned as a potential nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court during his judicial tenure. Levi served as Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit before becoming the 14th Dean of Duke University School of Law in 2007, where he served as its former dean. Currently, Levi serves as President of the American Law Institute and as Lead Independent Director on the Board of Directors of Las Vegas Sands Corporation, with an institutional affiliation to Miriam Adelson.
