About
David Bitan (also known as David Hai Bitan) is an Israeli lawyer and politician born on April 8, 1960. He has been a member of the Knesset for the Likud party since 2013 and is recognized as a close ally of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Bitan has held several key positions including Chairman of the Coalition and Chairman of the Likud party in the Knesset (2016-2017), and chaired the Immigration and Absorption Committee in the 23rd Knesset. His political career began after serving as mayor of Ramat Gan from 2003 to 2013. Bitan's career has been marked by significant legal controversies, with Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit announcing on January 26, 2020 that he would be indicted for bribery, fraud and breach of trust, money laundering, and tax offenses following a hearing. As a right-wing politician, he emphasizes national security and settlement policies. Despite his legal troubles, he remains an active and influential figure within the Likud party.
