About
David Lee Camp, commonly known as Dave Camp, is a former American politician, attorney, and Republican member of the United States House of Representatives who served for over two decades. Born on July 9, 1953, in Midland, Michigan, he graduated from H.H. Dow High School in 1971, attended the University of Sussex in England (1973–1974), earned a B.A. magna cum laude from Albion College in 1975, and obtained a J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1978. After practicing law in Midland, he entered politics and was elected in 1990 to represent Michigan's 10th congressional district, later serving Michigan's 4th district from 1993 until his retirement in 2015. Camp rose to prominence as Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee from 2011 to 2015, where he led significant tax reform efforts, including a comprehensive 2014 proposal. Throughout his tenure, he focused on tax policy, international trade, Medicare, Social Security, and fiscal issues. In March 2014, he announced he would not seek re-election. Post-Congress, he has engaged in advisory roles, consulting on fiscal and trade matters while maintaining ties to his Midwestern roots in Michigan.
