About
Daniella Weiss (born August 30, 1945) is an Israeli far-right Orthodox Zionist activist and politician renowned for her advocacy of Jewish settlement expansion in the West Bank. She is the founder and leader of the Nachala settler organization, which promotes the establishment of new Israeli settlements in the occupied territories through direct action, ideological campaigns, and sometimes controversial methods. Weiss served as mayor of Kedumim, a West Bank settlement, from September 1996 to 2007, being re-elected in November 2001. Her tenure and activism have positioned her as a key figure in Israel's settler movement, endorsing hardline politicians like Bezalel Smotrich and criticizing peace processes involving territorial concessions. Weiss's activities have drawn significant international scrutiny due to allegations of inciting violence and supporting extremist actions. Nachala, under her leadership, has been involved in at least one killing and accused of promoting illegal outposts and confrontations with Palestinians. Criticized for escalating tensions in the West Bank, Weiss was sanctioned by Canada in June 2024 for violence against civilians and by the United Kingdom in May 2025 under similar measures. These sanctions highlight her controversial status, with detractors condemning her ideology as contributing to human rights abuses, while supporters view her as a defender of Jewish rights in biblical lands. Despite legal and diplomatic repercussions, Weiss remains a prominent voice in far-right Israeli politics.
