About
Daniel H. Rubinstein (born 1967) is a retired United States diplomat and career Senior Foreign Service Officer with extensive experience in Middle East affairs. A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, he joined the Foreign Service and held positions including overseas tours in Brasilia, Damascus, Tunis, Luanda, Tel Aviv, and service with the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad. In Washington, he worked in the Bureaus of Near Eastern Affairs and Intelligence and Research. He speaks Arabic, Hebrew, and Portuguese fluently, earning recognition as one of the State Department's leading Arabists. Rubinstein served as Director of the Office of Israel and Palestinian Affairs (2004-2005), Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Amman, Jordan (2005-2008), Chief of the Civilian Observer Unit in the Multinational Force and Observers in Sinai (prior), Consul General and Chief of Mission in Jerusalem (2009-2012), U.S. Special Envoy for Syria (2014-2015), and U.S. Ambassador to Tunisia (2015-2019). He also acted as Chargé d'Affaires ad interim to Sudan and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of Intelligence and Research. He is married to Julie Adams. Following his diplomatic career, Rubinstein has engaged in organizations supporting U.S.-Israel relations, including serving as a Director/Board Member at the American Israel Education Foundation.
