About
Daniel Och is an American billionaire hedge fund manager and philanthropist. He is best known as the founder of Och-Ziff Capital Management, later renamed Sculptor Capital Management, which he established in 1994. He served as chairman and former CEO. Born in New York in 1961, Och is recognized for his significant financial success, with a net worth estimated at US$3.6 billion as of August 2021, and for his substantial philanthropic contributions, particularly to pro-Israel causes. His network of influence includes financial relationships with figures such as Howard Kohr. Och's career is also marked by a major controversy. In 2016, Och-Ziff Capital Management settled with U.S. authorities, paying $412 million in penalties for a bribery scheme. While Och was not criminally charged, the SEC found he "caused" certain violations and personally paid a $2.2 million penalty, agreeing to a three-year ban from the securities industry. Following this period, he transitioned from his leadership roles at the firm, eventually focusing on his family office, Willoughby Capital.
