About
Connie Hedegaard Koksbang (born September 15, 1960) is a prominent Danish politician, journalist, and public intellectual with a distinguished career focused on environmental policy and climate action. She made history in 1984 when, at age 23, she became the youngest-ever member of the Danish Parliament (Folketinget) for the Conservative People's Party, serving until 1990. After a successful journalism career from 1990-2004 as a reporter for Berlingske Tidende, head of DR's Radioavisen, and host of DR2's Deadline program, she returned to politics as Denmark's Minister for the Environment (2004-2007), Minister for Climate and Energy (2007-2009), and Minister for Nordic Cooperation (2005-2007). She served as the European Union's first Commissioner for Climate Action from 2010 to 2014, where she was influential in EU environmental policy and global climate diplomacy, leading negotiations for the EU's 2030 Climate and Energy Framework and developing the 2050 Roadmap for a low-carbon economy. Since leaving the European Commission, she chairs multiple boards including the KR Foundation, Concito, Berlingske Media, and Aarhus University, and serves on supervisory boards for Danfoss, Nordex, the European Climate Foundation, and Volkswagen's Sustainability Council. She remains an active advocate against climate change through lectures, writing, and global dialogues on green economies.
