About
The Coalition for Democracy in Iran (CDI) was an advocacy organization and neoconservative pressure group co-founded in 2002 by Michael Ledeen, a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, and Morris Amitay, former executive director of AIPAC. It focused on promoting Iranian regime change and democracy by altering U.S. foreign policy toward interventionist policies, akin to the National Endowment for Democracy, and maintained close ties to Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of the Shah. CDI was identified as a partner of the Alliance for Democracy in Iran (AFDDI) and actively encouraged a democratic revolution in Iran. The group functioned until early 2005, announcing an indefinite halt to new website postings in May 2005, after which its site became defunct, effectively ending its activities.
