Claudio Gregorio Epelman is a prominent Latin American Jewish leader serving as Executive Director of the Latin American Jewish Congress (Congreso Judío Latinoamericano, CJLA), the regional branch of the World Jewish Congress (WJC). In this role, he acts as WJC Commissioner for Interreligious Dialogue and representative to the Holy See. He has been instrumental in promoting Jewish interests across Latin America and advancing interreligious dialogue, including coordinating a 2012 meeting between Latin American Jewish leaders and Pope Benedict XVI, as well as several encounters with Pope Francis, with whom he shares a personal friendship dating back to when the pontiff was Archbishop Jorge Bergoglio in Buenos Aires. Epelman has been recognized by the Argentine government for his contributions to interreligious dialogue and has championed digital initiatives to monitor and combat antisemitism and discrimination on the internet and social media platforms.
