About
Chantal Belzberg is a Canadian-Israeli philanthropist best known as the co-founder of OneFamily, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting victims of terrorism in Israel and their families. Originally from Canada, she and her husband, Marc Belzberg, moved their family to Jerusalem in 1991, motivated by a strong sense of communal responsibility and affection for Israel. The couple has been actively involved in philanthropic work, focusing on providing aid to those impacted by violence and terror. OneFamily was established in 2001 during the Second Intifada, inspired by a personal family moment: while planning their daughter Michal's Bat Mitzvah celebration in August 2001, the Belzbergs learned of the Sbarro restaurant suicide bombing in Jerusalem, which killed 15 people and injured over 130. Their 12-year-old daughter Michal, moved by the tragedy, decided to donate the funds set aside for her party to help the victims, leading to the creation of the organization with initial volunteers, including director Avihu Cohen, who had personal experience with terrorism. Under Chantal and Marc's leadership, OneFamily has expanded to offer a wide range of services, including financial assistance, psychological counseling, rehabilitation programs, and community support for survivors of terror attacks. The organization investigates gaps in government-provided services to ensure comprehensive aid, helping thousands of individuals rebuild their lives. Chantal works closely with her husband in these efforts, emphasizing empowerment and resilience among victims. Their story and contributions have been highlighted in Jewish media and philanthropic circles, underscoring their role in fostering hope amid ongoing challenges in Israel.
