About
Breivik Geofarm AS was a fictitious limited liability company (AS) registered in Norway by Anders Behring Breivik, the perpetrator of the 2011 Norway attacks. Established as a front for agricultural activities, the company was used to purchase large quantities of ammonium nitrate fertilizer, which Breivik later converted into explosives for the bombing in Oslo on July 22, 2011. The entity was not a genuine farming operation but a deliberate fabrication to circumvent restrictions on chemical acquisitions, allowing Breivik to amass over 500 kilograms of the substance from suppliers without raising immediate suspicions. The company's registration and operations were part of Breivik's broader preparations for his terrorist acts, which also included the shooting massacre on Utøya island. Breivik listed himself as the sole owner and director, claiming it was for organic farming on a property he intended to acquire. Investigations following the attacks revealed that the business had no real economic activity beyond the fertilizer purchases, and it was dissolved shortly after Breivik's arrest. The use of such a fictitious entity highlighted vulnerabilities in chemical sales regulations at the time. Post-attack inquiries by Norwegian authorities, including the police and the Commission to Review the Terrorist Attacks, confirmed the company's role in enabling the acquisition of bomb-making materials. Breivik was convicted in 2012 for mass murder and terrorism, with the Geofarm operation cited as evidence of premeditation. The scandal led to tightened controls on ammonium nitrate sales in Europe.
