About
Bob Luddy, also known as Robert L. Luddy, is a U.S. Army veteran and graduate of La Salle University who grew up as one of eight children in a 'hard-scrabble, can-do' family that emphasized resilience and self-reliance. He founded CaptiveAire Systems in 1976 during an economic recession with limited capital and as a newcomer to North Carolina, later purchasing and transforming a sheet metal shop in 1981 into the company's core operation. Under his leadership as president and CEO, CaptiveAire has become North America's largest manufacturer of commercial kitchen ventilation systems and air management products, employing over 2,000 people across six manufacturing facilities and more than 100 sales offices nationwide. Based in Raleigh, North Carolina, Luddy has documented his entrepreneurial journey in books like 'Entrepreneurial Life,' which chronicles the company's improbable success against the odds. He is also the founder of Thales Academy and a prominent conservative donor in North Carolina, with his business achievements complementing his known philanthropic and educational initiatives.
