Blanche Horowitz (née Brown), daughter of Samuel Brown and Rose Brown, was a high school stenography and typing teacher at Girls High School in the New York City Public Schools. She was a long-standing member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA) during the Great Depression era, involved in labor organizing alongside her husband, Philip Norman Horowitz, a high school English teacher and fellow party member. The couple were strong supporters of Joseph Stalin and remained loyal to the CPUSA until at least 1956, following Nikita Khrushchev's revelations. Mother of David Horowitz (1939-2025) and Ruth Horowitz, the family lived in the Queens borough of New York City, including Long Island City (from 1940), Forest Hills, and Sunnyside.
