About
Avraham Duvdevani is an Israeli rabbi, politician, and religious Zionist leader born on August 5, 1945, in Jerusalem, Israel. He comes from an Orthodox Jewish background and has dedicated his career to Zionist causes, Jewish education, and strengthening ties between Israel and the Jewish diaspora. Duvdevani served in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) as a paratrooper, participating in the 1967 Six-Day War, including the liberation of Jerusalem. His early involvement in youth movements and religious Zionism led him to prominent roles within Zionist organizations. Before becoming President/Chairman of the World Zionist Organization (WZO) in 2010, he headed the WZO's Settlement Division for many years, advocating for Jewish settlement activities in Israel and the West Bank, which has drawn criticism from some quarters for promoting expansionist policies. As President/Chairman of the WZO from 2010 to 2020, Duvdevani focused on fostering Jewish identity, education, and Israel-diaspora relations, overseeing the organization's growth following its separation from the Jewish Agency. He also chaired the Jewish Agency's Holocaust Restitution Committee. In 2020, he was elected as the global Chairman of the Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF), a position he continues to hold, where he emphasizes afforestation, land preservation, and Zionist education. Duvdevani holds a bachelor's degree in Jewish History and Educational Administration from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He is married with four children and resides in Ramat Gan, Israel. His leadership has been praised for revitalizing Zionist institutions but criticized by pro-Palestinian advocates for his support of settlement expansion.
