About
Dr. Avi Katz is an accomplished technology executive, entrepreneur, and investor with a strong background in semiconductors and materials engineering. A graduate of the Israeli Naval Academy and the U.S. Naval ASW program, he earned both a B.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Semiconductors Materials Engineering from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. Katz has authored more than 70 U.S. patents and held key roles early in his career, including at AT&T Bell Labs, followed by serving as President, Secretary, and General Counsel at Loral Space & Communications. He is the Founding Managing Member of GigCapital Global and has led multiple SPAC offerings, such as GigCapital9, which closed a $253 million IPO on NASDAQ. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board at QT Imaging Holdings (QTIH), where he is married to the company's CEO and director (a doctor), and recently purchased 24,107 shares for $155,008 on January 22 (year reported as 2026, likely a data error). His professional collaborations include work with Hadar Weiss. In addition to his business achievements, Katz is recognized for his philanthropy, notably as Chairman of the Board of Governors at the Orthodox Union.
