About
Arthur Fried (died 2022) was a Jewish-American philanthropist, lawyer, and financier. He held a B.B.A. from Bernard M. Baruch School of Business and Public Administration (1963), a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School (1968), and an M.B.A. in Health Care Administration from City University of New York (1983). Earlier in his career, he served as CFO of Lehman Brothers. Later, he was CEO of the Rothschild Foundation (Jerusalem/Geneva) until November 1999 and Chairman and CEO of the AVI CHAI Foundation until December 2012, where he was also a founding trustee. He served as a board member of The Tikvah Fund and was a devoted supporter of Shalem College, which named a fellowship in his honor. Under his leadership at AVI CHAI, the foundation became a leading force in strategic investments in Jewish day schools, literacy, tradition, and mutual understanding among Jews, including establishing Jerusalem's Beit AVI CHAI cultural center. He resided at 20 Halfour Street, Jerusalem, Israel. Fried was remembered for his loyalty to family and friends, exacting standards, and personal acts of anonymous philanthropy, such as supporting education for individuals in need.
