About
Annette Maria Lantos Tilleman is the eldest daughter of Tom Lantos, the first Holocaust survivor elected to the U.S. Congress, and Annette Tilleman Lantos, a prominent human rights advocate. Born into a Hungarian Jewish family that fled Nazi persecution, she grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, immersed in her parents' commitment to democracy, human rights, and philanthropy. Tom Lantos served as a Democratic Congressman from California from 1981 until his death in 2008, and the family established the Lantos Foundation for Human Rights & Justice in 2004 to honor his legacy by promoting international human rights, religious freedom, and efforts to prevent genocide. She has carried forward her family's mission as President of the Lantos Foundation, where she oversees initiatives supporting global advocacy, including work on women's rights, refugee issues, and combating modern slavery. She has been involved in Democratic politics, supporting candidates aligned with progressive values, and has spoken at events commemorating her father's work. Married to John Tilleman, a scientist and entrepreneur, Annette resides in California and continues to advocate for human rights through board positions and public engagements, maintaining the family's influence in nonprofit and political spheres.
