About
Andrew Madoff, born on April 8, 1966, in Queens, New York City, United States, was the youngest son of Bernard Madoff. He worked as a financier at Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC (BLMIS), where he was involved in the market-making side and rose to a senior position in trading operations. In December 2008, he and his brother Mark confronted their father after he confessed to running a multibillion-dollar Ponzi scheme—the largest in history—and reported him to federal authorities, leading to Bernard's arrest on December 11, 2008. Andrew fully cooperated with prosecutors, who determined he and his brother had no knowledge of the fraud, and he was never charged. Following the scandal, Andrew faced intense public scrutiny and personal tragedy; his brother Mark died by suicide in 2010. Andrew was divorced from his wife Deborah in 2013 and shared custody of their children. He was diagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma in 2013 and underwent treatment while living in Manhattan. Despite his role in exposing the scheme, Andrew struggled with the fallout, including asset freezes and reputational damage. He died on September 3, 2014, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City at age 48.
