About
Amir Avivi is a retired Israeli Brigadier General and prominent national security advocate. Born in Jerusalem, Israel, he spent much of his childhood abroad due to his father Pinhas Avivi's diplomatic career as a former Senior Deputy Director General of Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ambassador to Colombia, Chile, and Turkey. Avivi served in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) from 1987 to 2017, enlisting as a lone soldier and rising through key positions including Commander of a regional brigade in the Southern Command, Deputy commander of the Gaza Division, Commander of the Sagi Brigade, Chief of staff to IDF Chief of Staff Moshe Ya'alon, and roles in the Defense Establishment Comptroller Unit up to Deputy Comptroller. In 2020, he founded and became Chairman of the Israel Defense and Security Forum (IDSF, Hebrew: Habithonistim), an NGO with over 16,000-30,000 reserve and retired security personnel advocating for robust national security policies. Avivi authored No Retreat: How to Secure Israel for Generations to Come (Hebrew: לא נשוב אחור: כיצד נבטיח את ביטחון ישראל לדורות), published in May 2023, and was ranked 37th on The Jerusalem Post's '50 Most Influential Jews' list in 2023. He holds hawkish views, supporting Israeli security control and settlements in the West Bank, the Trump peace plan, and proposing a 'New State Solution' with a Palestinian state in Gaza and northern Sinai.
