The American Identity Movement (AIM) was a far-right, white supremacist, neo-Nazi organization that emerged as the rebranded successor to Identity Evropa in March 2019. Identity Evropa was founded in March 2016 by Nathan Damigo, a former Marine, and focused on recruiting young, college-educated white men through polished propaganda emphasizing European heritage and opposition to multiculturalism. AIM continued this mission but adopted a more covert approach to evade scrutiny from law enforcement and online platforms, targeting young professionals and activists with messaging centered on 'American identity' as a euphemism for white nationalism. The group promoted ethnonationalist ideologies, including the preservation of a white majority in the United States, and was involved in activities such as distributing flyers, organizing protests, and participating in events like the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. AIM's leaders and members, including former Identity Evropa leader Elliot Kline (also known as Eli Mosley), openly praised Nazi Germany and advocated for the 'Nazification of America.' The organization maintained affiliations with figures like Nick Fuentes, a prominent white nationalist commentator, through shared events and ideological alignment. AIM faced widespread condemnation from civil rights groups like the Southern Poverty Law Center, which designated it a hate group, and was subject to federal investigations for involvement in violent extremism. In November 2020, AIM disbanded amid internal fractures, legal pressures, and deplatforming efforts by social media companies, though former members continued to operate in fragmented online networks.
