Alex Shumate is a seasoned attorney and corporate leader based in Columbus, Ohio. Originally from Sandusky, Ohio, where he graduated high school, he attended Ohio Wesleyan University on a pre-law track, earning his degree from the Class of 1972. His early career involved public service in Ohio state government, where he held a position referred to as 'General' until leaving for private practice in 1982; he returned to state service in 1985 at the request of the state. Shumate later built a distinguished career in private law, rising to Senior Partner at Squire Patton Boggs US LLP (formerly Squire, Sanders and Dempsey). He has held significant corporate governance roles, including as Lead Independent Director at CyrusOne and as Vice Chair of The Ohio State University Board of Trustees.
