Aleksandar Vučić (born March 5, 1970, in Belgrade) is a Serbian politician serving as President of Serbia since 2017. He graduated from Zemunska Gimnazija in 1988 and earned a law degree from the Faculty of Law at the University of Belgrade in 1994. Vučić began his political career in 1993 as a member of the far-right Serbian Radical Party (SRS), becoming its secretary-general in 1995 and serving in the National Assembly. He was a prominent figure in the SRS until 2008, when he co-founded the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) after splitting from the SRS, serving as SNS president from 2012 to 2023. Previously, he held positions as First Deputy Prime Minister (2012-2014) and Prime Minister (2014-2017). As leader of the SNS and in his governmental roles, he has overseen foreign policy and domestic legislation. He maintains relationships with international figures, including consulting ties with Ronald S. Lauder on foreign influence matters. Vučić's leadership has focused on economic reforms and anti-corruption, though his past associations with nationalist politics, including ties to Slobodan Milošević allies, have drawn criticism. As president, he has navigated Serbia's EU accession talks, relations with Russia and China, and Kosovo disputes. His tenure has been marked by allegations of media control and authoritarian tendencies, but he remains a dominant figure in Serbian politics.
