About
Adi Schwartz is an Israeli author, researcher, and freelance journalist specializing in the Arab-Israeli conflict, the Palestinian refugee problem, UNRWA's role in perpetuating the refugee issue, public diplomacy, and the history of Jews from Arab countries (Mizrahi Jews). He is a frequent commentator and lecturer on these topics. Early in his career, he joined Haaretz as a staff writer in 1999 and served as a senior editor until 2009, working as a foreign correspondent covering Brussels, London, Rome, and Latin America. Currently, he holds positions as a research fellow at the Misgav Institute for National Security & Zionist Strategy and the Ben-Gurion Research Institute for the Study of Israel and Zionism; a fellow at the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy (ISGAP); a postdoctoral fellow at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev; a lecturer in journalism at Sapir College; and an official instructor for the Israeli Ministry of Education on the history of Mizrahi Jews. He is also the Israeli correspondent for Monocle magazine. Schwartz co-authored (with Einat Wilf) the 2020 book The War of Return: How Western Indulgence of the Palestinian Dream Has Obstructed the Path to Peace (St. Martin's Press), a Hebrew bestseller critiquing the Palestinian 'right of return'.
