About
Abdulrahman Alharbi is a Saudi Arabian national who, in 2013, was a 20-year-old student residing in Revere, Massachusetts, near Boston. On April 15, 2013, he was injured as a spectator at the Boston Marathon finish line, sustaining shrapnel wounds to both legs that required surgery. He was treated at Brigham and Women's Hospital, where his condition was initially listed as serious but improved rapidly. Shortly after the bombing, a Department of Homeland Security report listed Alharbi as a person of interest with potential ties to terrorism, prompting a brief investigation. He was quickly cleared of any involvement or knowledge related to the attack perpetrators, Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, and confirmed to have no criminal history or connections to terrorist activity. Media personality Glenn Beck repeatedly alleged on-air that Alharbi was connected to the bombing, leading Alharbi to sue Beck for defamation. A federal judge ruled that Beck had defamed Alharbi. Alharbi departed the United States sometime after the incident amid heightened scrutiny.
